Xanthosoma is a genus of about 50 species of tropical and subtropical plants of the Araceae family. They are all native to America. Several species are grown for their starchy corms, and are an important source of food in various regions. They are known as mafafa, malanga, tannia,, bore, yautia chonque, macabo, rasping and tania.

They are herbs with 3 to 18 segments. The leaves of most species of Xanthosoma are 40 to 200 centimeters long, are heart-shaped sagittate (with tip). In contrast to the genus Colocasia are stalked by the center, but the V-cut also been extended to the junction point of departure to the leaf petiole.

Cultivation:
The reproduction is made from plantation cormelos or young. The planting depth is 20 to 40 cm. After plowing the soil are deposited as corms or cormelos.
